Police certificate, medical and civil documents from India for Canada

IRCC asks Indian applicants for a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC). Character certificates are not accepted. Medical exams are done only by doctors on IRCC’s panel physician list, and documents not in English or French need certified translations.

How do I get an Indian police certificate for Canada?

Apply for a Police Clearance Certificate at the passport office, your local district police station, an Indian embassy or consulate if you live abroad, or a BLS International centre. IRCC notes the format differs depending on who issues it. Check it covers your whole period and all of India.

Why was my Indian character certificate not accepted?

IRCC’s India page states that character certificates are not accepted. It also refuses police certificates that only cover a limited area or time period. Apply for a full Police Clearance Certificate instead, through a Passport office, your local district police, or an Indian embassy, consulate or BLS International centre if you live abroad.

Where do I do the Canada immigration medical in India?

Only with a doctor on IRCC’s panel physician list. For India the list includes clinics in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Pune, Ludhiana, Mohali, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram. Bring your passport and any medical instructions from IRCC.

Which Indian civil documents does IRCC expect?

A birth certificate, a marriage certificate if married, and birth certificates for children showing the parents’ names. IRCC’s New Delhi instructions say that if a birth was registered late, you should add old school records and your voter ID card to prove identity.

  • Education: semester-wise or year-wise mark sheets; consolidated mark sheets are not accepted for study permits.
  • Adopted children: a CARA no objection letter.

Do documents in Hindi or regional languages need translation?

Yes. Any document not in English or French must come with a certified translation. Upload the original together with the translation. If the translator is not a certified member of a translation organization, IRCC also requires an affidavit from the translator.
