What documents do I need for a Canada visit visa from Sri Lanka?

Besides the IRCC online checklist, the Colombo visa office asks for detailed bank statements for the past 3 months, proof of employment or business, cancelled or expired passports showing past travel, and the signed consent to verification of documents form. Visiting family adds your host’s documents.

  • Employed: a signed original letter on company letterhead granting leave, with your position, salary and date of hire.
  • Self-employed: business registration documents.
  • Retired: a retirement certificate showing your pension amount.
  • Student travelling during term: a letter from your school confirming enrolment and approved absence.
  • Schedule 1 (IMM 5257 SCH1) if you answered "yes" to any background question.

How much bank balance do I need for a Canada visit visa from Sri Lanka?

IRCC does not set a fixed amount for visitors. The officer checks whether your funds cover the whole trip and whether the money looks like your own normal savings. Add pay slips, pension proof or investments to show where the balance comes from.

If someone else pays, the Colombo instructions ask for a signed letter from that person, a copy of their passport or photo ID, a bank certificate showing enough funds and an explanation of how they are related to you. These documents must be dated within 3 months of your application.

Large recent deposits with no explanation make officers doubt funds. If you sold property or received a gift, attach the deed or a short explanation with evidence.

What does my host in Canada need to send?

The Colombo instructions ask for a letter of invitation stating the purpose and length of the visit, a list of the people in the host’s household, a copy of the host’s status document, and proof of the host’s income, such as a Notice of Assessment, employment letter, pay stubs or bank statements.

If you are visiting family, add proof of the relationship, such as a birth or marriage certificate.

Where do I give biometrics in Sri Lanka?

At the Canada visa application centre in Colombo. Apply online first, pay the CAD 85 biometrics fee with your application, then book an appointment when the biometrics instruction letter arrives. Biometrics given in the last 10 years may still be valid.
